The coroner’s jury charged Henry Tripp, his wife Matilda, and their son Lauren with homicide. Henry and Matilda’s daughter Iva was charged as an accomplice. Forty-eight witnesses testified at the inquest. One claimed to have seen the Tripp wagon riding towards the track after 11:00 p.m. that fateful evening.

As guilty as the Tripps appeared, the case against them was circumstantial. The case went before a grand Jury, but no Indictment was issued. The mystery remained unsolved.
